Recertification of utility meters used to be widely practised, ensuring each meter had several useful lifetimes. However this practice, remanufacture by another name, is in sharp decline. As the market moves towards smart meters and the energy savings this offers, now is the ideal time to work to 'future proof' these new meters so they can be updated at a later stage as the technology moves on. Such measures will ensure that recertification of meters continues to deliver the significant resource and energy savings it has provided in the past.
