Due to the extensive skill and knowledge base that the UK possesses in the machine tool sector, older British machines are regularly shipped back to the UK from developing economies for remanufacture. Large OEMs offer repairs and parts, and smaller operations can remanufacture to an as new condition. There is also the ability to fit old machine tools with modern CNCs. Strong competition from cheap imports will reduce sales at the lower end of the market in future. There will be a need for remanufacturers to upgrade as well as carry out straight remanufacture.
