The low replacement rates in the home, usually at the point at which repair becomes uneconomic, and the poor condition at disposal of most appliances are not conducive to effective remanufacture. The sector is dominated by social enterprises who supply increasing numbers of appliances to disadvantaged households. The environmental benefit of remanufacturing appliances is marginal due to the increasing energy efficiency of new appliances.
