Resource: Product Group Report: Remanufacture of Industrial Boilers
Boilers have a widespread role in power generation, home heating and industrial activities. This 2009 report focuses on the 100kW to 30MW range, of which there are around 23,000 in the UK
Tuesday, 11th August 2009
Within the UK around 7 or 8 large industrial boiler OEMs exist, for example Babcock and Wilson, Beaumont, Fulton, Studrock and TW Ward, though these may source parts from abroad from companies such as Loos in Germany. There are also many smaller local companies involved in servicing and maintenance. To best meet the need for different boiler specifications OEMs generally offer the boiler design, boiler unit and installation as part of an overall purchase package.
Overall there is little incentive for buyers to purchase a used boiler. In general buying new is seen as having a small extra cost for something that is new, has been tailor made to suite their needs and is viewed to be safer and more reliable. However, a boiler is not viewed as a disposable item and will be kept running for as long as is possible.
