Remanufacturing Awareness: courses and workshops
Practice and Technology Seminars
By staging of a series of seminars the CRR is aiming to provide a showcase for practices and technologies which are central to remanufacturing activity.
Hosted by high profile sites with ongoing work in the field of the seminar subject matter, they are typically configured to include presentations on traditional and cutting edge methodology summarised by speakers and delegates from industry and academia.
The preferred format for the free one day events is a series of presentations including short question and answer sessions, lunch and followed by a tour of host site operations.
As well as providing specific information regarding options for the application of technological and business procedures to remanufacturing activity, they offer useful networking opportunities to delegates and presenters with shared interests.
Information about proposed events and an invitation to attend is distributed to CRR registrants.

The Centre for Remanufacturing and Reuse organized a very successful and fruitful event with the University of Leeds.
The seminar was attended by 35 delegates from industry, universities and government organisations. David Parker, Head of Remanufacturing at Oakdene Hollins, which oversees CRR activities on behalf of DEFRA, opened the seminar with a brief introduction to CRR.
Professor Ann Neville took the case of remanufacturing pumps in the oil industry and emphasised the importance of understanding surfaces.
Dr Michael Gell then talked about the significance of climate change on businesses, business risks, implications and imperatives, and how businesses should transform from carbon intensive to green businesses.
An insight into remanufacturing in the automotive industry, where the activity is expected to grow, was given by Ian Buxcey. Ian noted that combining mechanical and electronic expertise is essential for the future. Changes in technology are a particular challenge for remanufacturers.
An overview of remanufacturing in the electronics industry with a perspective of electronic packaging was given by Dr Andy Whitaker, who addressed the requirements for, and the challenges facing, the electronics remanufacturing industry.
Finally Peter Murphy talked through the repurposing of mobile phones for other applications.
