Our three key strands are:

Helping Purchasers:

Purchaser behaviours have a very strong impact on the market pull for reused and remanufactured products. What we are doing is –

• Working with British Standard Institute and industry bodies to define quality standards and models of operation for remanufacturers that will give confidence to buyers.
• Teaching purchasers about the potential of buying reused products, the sort of questions they should ask and guarantees they can expect.

Stimulating Markets:

This is largely about establishing the information and procedures that affect a range of businesses or products and includes –

• Generating carbon footprint data that compares reused with used-once products.
• Defining ethical practices for the reuse and export of key products such as IT and construction products to the developing world.
• Teaching future business leaders at MBA level about new business models based on reuse rather than once-through manufacture.
• Supporting a major push into office furniture reuse involving a consortium of retailers and manufacturers.

Promoting beneficial Reuse:

All activities aimed at getting the word out about the benefits and supporting work are covered. This includes this web site, news, conferences, reports, presentations, product research, policy work with Treasury and Defra, what to do with end-of-life products, remanufacturing courses, and web tools to test remanufacturing ideas.
