Is there a typical remanufactured product?
Remanufacturing works best where the product is:
- of higher value
- complex
- durable
- not related to personal status or lifestyle.
It is less successful where customers perceive remanufactured goods as 'second class'. However, there are opportunities to change customers' perspectives on these items.
Serviceable fashion items such as washing machines can be remanufactured and sold on into secondary markets where the function of a device is more important than its appearance. This type of remanufacture/reuse can have an important role in improving the lives of disadvantaged households in the UK.
