Desso, with a UK office in Oxfordshire, has won the Waste and Recycling category of the Guardian's Sustainable Business Awards. It won for its trademarked Cradle to Cradle strategy, which sees the company design products and materials with an eye on their later disassembly and reuse in another production process. Under the Cradle to Cradle process, materials are assessed for their environmental credentials, with the aim of only using those that can be endlessly recycled. Desso chief executive Stef Kranendijk said: "We have found that the strategy boosts our profits and innovation but it also helps us deal with the most pressing environmental challenges we face as a society. And we hope it will be adopted by others, so that together we can achieve scale in going beyond sustainability."
