Each year 15,000 engines are to be reconditioned, rendering 70 percent of the materials reusable. Volkswagen is thus not only promoting a low-cost solution, but also making a major contribution towards protecting the environment and preserving resources. The remanufactured engines mean that Volkswagen Original Parts can be made available up to 50 percent cheaper. There are future plans to expand the remanufacturing process to encompass further engine types as well as transmissions.
