The analysis of tyre fragments and casings collected in the study found that the proportion of tyre debris from retread tyres and OE tyres is similar to the estimated proportion of retread and OE tyres in service. There was no evidence to suggest that the proportion of tyre fragments/shreds from retread tyres was overrepresented in the debris items collected. In addition the evaluation of available crash data shows that vehicle crashes related to truck tyre failure and truck tyre debris are very rare events that account for less than 1 percent of traffic crash involvements.
