Product Group Report: Remanufacture of pumps and fans

In an environment where the margins on new units are becoming increasingly slim. the market for service and remanufacture / refurbishment represents a major source of profit for the OEMs of pumping and ventilation equipment.

Remanufacture is more common in the pump industry; with fan remanufacture currently at a very low level, probably due to lower costs. Large pumps are a considerable capital and material investment and can be in operation for over 50 years.

The increasing use of lower quality, cheaper imports is, however, likely to lead to fewer pumps being suitable for remanufacturing and users being encouraged to throw away and buy new unless steps are taken to counter this trend.

This 2006 report has been reformatted for 2009. You may also be interested in the companion report on fans (available here as a download).
