Product Group Report: Remanufacture of carpet tiles

Carpet tiles are an ideal product for both remanufacturing and refurbishment programmes although remanufacturing of carpet tiles is currently only undertaken by one industry leader.

Refurbishment is more widespread but is only undertaken by social enterprises, who are working alongside OEMs to help divert carpet tiles from landfill. There is the potential for the expansion of such schemes although more funding is needed and negative consumer perception of second hand goods needs to be overcome.

Green procurement policies, especially in the public sector, could help to drive this market and the use of remanufactured goods as a move towards a more environmentally responsible business needs to be promoted.

This 2007 report has been reformatted for 2009.
