Remanufacturing workshop - Tue 23 Jan 2007 at Bristol University

This event will bring together remanufacturers from all areas of the UK economy.

This year Oakdene Hollins has been running a substantial pilot project in remanufacturing, sponsored by Defra’s BREW fund, to determine how remanufacturing and other reuse options can be boosted for profit, material and energy savings.

Our research has allowed us to build a rich picture of remanufacturing - the trends, barriers and opportunities - in a range of sectors and product classes. We are now examining how to convert these into actions for next year’s plan that will translate into benefits for remanufacturers and purchasers of remanufactured products.

The Remanufacturing Interest Group stakeholder meeting to be held at Bristol University in January will enable participants to have an opportunity to shape the future priorities of the project. We would particularly like to know what actions could be taken to assist and promote remanufacturing. Some themes may be common to all sectors, others specific.

We expect to cover areas such as:

• Using public procurement to pull through sales and gain reputation
• Sharing operating practices from other remanufacturers
• Taking action as a consortium in marketing, promotion, or standards
• Lobbying for capital allowances for remanufactured goods
• Exploring use of the internet for collecting core or reaching customers
• Exporting goods to foreign markets legitimately, ethically and profitably
• Identifying further areas for research by others or attendees.
