Caterpillar's Progress Rail to provide locomotive, rail-car services in Australia
Australian engineering, logistics and rolling stock repair services firm Coote Industrial Ltd. recently reached a distribution agreement with Caterpillar Inc. subsidiary Progress Rail Services Corp.
Progress Rail will provide Coote certain locomotive and rail-car parts and rebuilds, and track maintenance technology in Australia. Progress Rail's Chemetron Rail Welding division will supply used and remanufactured railway components. In addition, Progress Rail will provide locomotive modernization services for Caterpillar engines.
The pact provides Progress Rail a toehold in Australia for its sales distribution network, which is expanding globally. Last month, Caterpillar reached an agreement to acquire MGE Equipamentos & Serviços Ferroviários Ltda, providing Progress Rail access to locomotive/car repair and rebuild business in Brazil.
